No Fleeing from Me When I Want You

By Professor Michael Itungwa Shukrani

As soon as the first beam of light tore the gloom into tatters
When the stars gathered in countless clusters
Long ago, when the Earth was formed without any glove
Destiny was screaming that you and I would be in love

Throughout the days that have woven history
You have made me happy without causing me misery
Our life together has been a splendid feast up to today
For all my sorrows have blatantly faded away

Stay with me as long as I want you
Although sorrows sometimes haunt you in a queue
Albeit love seems to have left your land
Shout out again that I remain your husband

Do you really want me to weep in all towers?
Do you not want to be with me for more hours?
If you love me indeed
You will hanker after being with me, even in this mead

Should poisonous men strut about
To the extent that they leave me out
I will not care at all
But if you flee from me, I will regret against a wall

If in me you have ever seen any flaw
Do not hide your voice as if in war
But tell me about it, even with shame
And do not flee from me as a stock without fame

Let us be together again for days
Let us enjoy together the moments flooding our ways
May the cups of our joys overflow ceaselessly
May our laughters burst continuously

Habari nzuri leo!
